Electric wheelchairs provide millions of people with much needed mobility. My grandmother used an electric wheelchair to get around. She was twice injured by standing and reaching for an object then accidentally bumping the control mechanism. This caused the chair to lurch forward and injure her. Electric wheelchairs have an on/off switch on the control box, but it is up to the occupant to remember to use it when getting in or out of the chair. I have patented an invention which eliminates the requirement for operators to remember to make the chair safe when they exit the chair. After I installed my invention my Grandmother was never again injured by her wheelchair.
I believe my invention could prevent thousands of painful injuries and dramatically lower insurance claims.
