A new type of bicycle lock
[Category : - Biking]
[Viewed 2580 times]
Bicycle locks haven't changed in design for a generation, and the statistics suggest they don't work.
In this design we have looked afresh at all aspects of bicycle security and come up with a simple modification which plugs the security loopholes of the current available locks. In addition this design will cost no more in material or manufacture than current locks.
The solution is simple - there are two weaknesses in cycle locks - if they are flexible, the links can be cut, if they are fixed in shape, then the lock is loose and can be forced apart. Our invention is a simple change which takes a fixed design and allows it to be closed and secured.
It is a simple change, but it has been patented!
Financial information
We are looking for sale or licensing, we are not a manufacturing partnership and we wish to hand over the design to others.
The patent has been awarded and a working design prototype manufactured in a machine shop.
60,000 bicycles are were stolen in London alone each year. 3 million new bicyles are sold in the uk each year. Every bike needs a lock and industry advice is to spend 10-20% of the value of a bike on the lock.
