A mobile display unit comprises a display element 1 such as a liquid crystal display 5 together with a power source 7 and control unit arranged to supply signals to the display unit to cause the display unit to display a changing or moving image. Preferably, the mobile display unit includes a body harness 3 to allow it to be carried by a single operator and the power source 7 is formed by a number of rechargeable batteries carried on the body harness. The display element may additionally include a rearward facing display (6, Figure 2), and may include an infra-red data receiving element 8 to enable the display to be changed. This change may also be effected by means of key pad 10.
