Variable compression ratio (VCR) mechanism
[Category : - Motors]
[Viewed 2554 times]
GRANTED Patent - A variable compression ratio (VCR) mechanism for an internal combustion engine, eg of the crankless type, comprises a part of a connecting rod (piston rod) perpendicularly fixed to the piston and engaged via threads with a further connecting rod part. Rotation of the piston results in change of the length of the combined piston rod. The rod parts may engage directly, or may be engaged by a threaded sleeve. The piston rod part may have external splines that mesh with the internal gear of an annulus which is supported by bearings and has an external gear meshing with drive gear. The annulus may be spoked to allow the passage of gases.
Variable compression provides better combustion and multifuel operation of engines.
