(Romanian Patent Office, year 2010, cod F 2010 0331, 2010)
Earthing sockets are classically built and assembled in different standard types, depending on soil resistivity to ohm electrical resistance value imposed by the technical rules in force. The reduction of the earthing sockets electrical resistance can be achieved by installing additional electrodes, if adjacent land surfaces available, or by adding bentonite around the electrodes and connecting links which also leads to additional works involving excavation.
In practice, resources of land allocated for installation of earthing sockets is quite limited, depending on different construction sites and utilities. Examples in this regard are:
- substations
- substations located in urban areas of housing blocks
- pylons of overhead power lines
- low voltage distribution boxes of housing blocks or placed on electric poles on the sidewalks, etc.
In all cases of restrictions on land areas, the construction of earthing sockets is limited to a particular type of construction with a limited number of electrodes.
To solve the problem of earthing sockets improvement, namely to decrease the electrical resistance, Ioan Rusu has designed a special electrode for ground sockets which provides an improved soil resistivity by injecting bentonite emulsion under pressure. The emulsion is made of water mixed with bentonite powder. Injecting the soil with bentonite emulsion under pressure eliminates additional excavation works around the electrodes and connecting links of the earthing socket.
