Financial informationTo understand the full impact of what this patent is about, read this brief overview.
If you would “Google”, “unattended cooking fires”, you would see that 1/2 of all home fires/smoke damage etc., start or originate from stove tops in kitchens when no one is in the kitchen to tend to it. Simply put, people leave the kitchen to do other things and forget that the stove is on. Obviously if you stay in the kitchen you are aware of the stoves energized condition. All other problems are averted.
The CRS, Cooking Reminder System, is designed to make you aware in other rooms of a home that your stove is energized/on. If you are made aware of that condition you would tend to it and any smoke or fire problems won’t happen. This is a proactive approach not a reactive one which all other systems are. This also makes it the least expensive and most effective.
There are several ways to accomplish this, but I as the inventor and installer of thousands of smoke detectors over the decades, I choose this method. Smoke detectors have been installed in homes in the United States since the mid 1970’s. This is mandated in the National Electric Code and the NFPA. If you would “Google”, “ How many replacement smoke detectors are sold each year”, it is between 30 and 40 million. This number is so large because it’s been code for over 50 years and they wear out. My patent proposes adding one more feature to the existing Smokey. We would simply add another feature to a smoke detector as a Cooking Reminder, without interfering with the smoke detector detection part or CO2 part. This detector would be manufactured new with that extra feature. It could be a light strobe, a voice, a beep, but not creating a nuisance. If you hear or see this feature you know your stove is still on.
So, in short, if we earned a dollar per smoke detector, 30 million, that’s a great investment per year. This is the only patent that makes your stove energized condition available in other parts of the house. This could easily become code because of it’s effectiveness and low cost. Other receivers can also be employed as well but, they are not mandated like smoke detectors.
If you were to go to bed and saw or heard the CRS detector, usually on the ceiling, would you not get up and turn off your stove before sleeping? I think that you would.
