Provided is an energy harvesting conveyor roller 10 comprising an axle 12, a cylindrical roller shell 14, and at least one bearing arrangement 16 configured to arrange the roller shell 14 coaxially about the axle 12 so that the roller shell 14 is rotatable about said axle 12. The roller shell 14 also includes at least one permanent magnet 18 arranged on and/or in an inner surface 20 thereof to form a rotor and the axle 12 includes windings 22 to form an armature, so that rotation of the at least one magnet 18 about the armature forms a synchronous generator. -7- Ei--- .~ cn c~C)
