Hydrogen Detection Tape (gas sensing element)

[Category : - OTHER]
[Viewed 147 times]

This patent and related patents and patent applications relates to a chemo chromic gas detection tape comprising a gas detection layer including a chemo chromic pigment dispersed throughout the layer, and a spacer, wherein the tape is wrapped around flanges of pipes and other areas that may experience gas leaks, and the tape irreversibly changes color upon exposure to a gas leak. The gas detection layer and the spacer are both permeable to the leaking gas, but the spacer covers a smaller area than the gas detection layer itself and helps improve contact between the gas and the chemo chromic pigment in the gas detection layer, thereby facilitating the color change reaction.
This technology was used for our hydrogen detection tape product (which also used a license from a third party – we are able to introduce you to the third party if you want to obtain a similar license), but it may be able to detect other gases such as hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, methane, formaldehyde, acetylene, sulfur dioxide, and nitrous oxide, and has various embodiments. Please refer to the description of the patent and related patents and patent applications for more details. This technology is being sold as a set patent portfolio, along with supporting manuals, documentation and customers contact lists.

Financial information

Hydrogen Industry Value Chain:

- US& Canada Market valuation
CAGR (2024 - 2030) 9% and Market value >76,5B by 20230.
- Europe
CAGR (2023 - 2032) 5,5% and Market value of >34,5B by 2032.

Growth Opportunities:
- Throughout these years Nitto has been approaching, selling and learning on bellows market and it is visible the rapidly increase of application fields as well as safety measures regulations that have been taking place along these years.
-Oil Refinery (high demand)
- Power Generation (high demand)
- Automotive (high demand)
- Agriculture (medium demand)
- Foods and pharma (medium demand)
- Metal and Steel (medium demand)

Competitive Landscape:

- Nitto H2 product technology is ahead from industry product technical performance. One competitor’s chemochomic tape product has low sensitivity and low visibility. It seems that it is unlikely to change color when the leakage level is low?.
- Reaction time: Quick ?- Change color in minimum 1minute? (5ml/minx1min.?5ml)?
- Tensile Strength: 158N/25mm?(=105MPa)?
- Workability: Silicone adhesive tape with PI base. ?Applicable to any surface.? Good for high pressure connection? with test port.?
- Visibility: Excellent? - Orange to dark brown? (1st Layer)?
- Easy Integration: Compact and adaptable design ensures seamless implementation in existing infrastructure without costly modifications.
- Cost-Effective Solution: Low production and maintenance costs compared to alternative hydrogen detection systems, making it accessible for widespread adoption.

Positioning of the H2 sensing IPs and License Agreements

- Nitto's H2 detection tape represents a unique collaboration, with Nitto holding the patent for the tape’s concept and structural design composed by the adhesive + patcher + spacer model, which is an improvement of the original tape using the pigment formulation developed by a USA University. This strategic partnership is governed by a license agreement that grants Nitto the right to integrate the University proprietary pigment technology, ensuring seamless synergy between structure and chemical detection to deliver superior hydrogen sensing performance. (Nitto is happy to introduce to the University if you are interested in licensing-in their technologies).

Awards

- R&D 100 2014
- NASA Commercial Invention of the year 2017
- National Florida Lab Consortium Technology of the year 2017
- Canadian (CHC) Safety award 2023

Final outcomes:

- Nitto is looking for sale-only (no licensing with royalties).
- The sale includes: R&D work files; case studies; formulation development and manufacturing process flows and diagrams. Some assets like E-commerce platform, records information from previous customers and a few H2 inventory.
