LED lighting unit with directed conditioned gas flow

[Category : - Agriculture- ELECTRICITY & LIGHTING]
[Viewed 125 times]

A semi-automated crop production system featuring a growing module with grids of cells for growing plants and a lighting and airflow fixture positioned above each cell. The lighting and airflow fixtures feature a fan disposed in a housing, a light emitting diode (LED) assembly board comprising LEDs disposed below the fan; a light diffuser disposed below the LED assembly board, and an adjustable airflow nozzle extending downwardly from the fan and protruding through the LED assembly board and the light diffuser. The adjustable airflow nozzle provides directed airflow downwardly toward a bottom area of the housing. The growing module and lighting and airflow fixtures are housed in a shell. The growing module may be slidably attached to the interior wall of the shell via mounting components.

Financial information

This lighting device provides the ability grow plants utilizing different LED wavelengths, while providing gas flow in different form factors including bulb, tube, and other forms. LED and/or OLED can be tuned or used to apply treatments such as UV or FR in addition to normal wavelengths found in PAR and PAR+. Directed vertical airflow disturbs the boundary layer in plant growth driving faster growth through encouraging xylem flow and transpiration. This process reduces the physiological and morphological disorder of tip-burn. Through the application of conditioned gas directly to the organism, a higher air temperature can be maintained, allowing for lower utility bills. A gas flowing through the lighting equipment will cool the equipment extending its useful life and reducing heat sink requirements. Conditioned gases can include CO2 or others to drive growth of organisms when lower light intensities are experienced. The combination of lighting and airflow reduce the requirements for equipment to satisfy both needs. Many vertical growing systems have difficulty incorporating vertical airflow.
