A novel material system and process have been developed by Freeform Composites Pty Ltd for binder jet 3D printing of porous carbon parts. It is a non-petroleum-based material system that is optimized to work with commercially available binder jet 3D printers. This material system and process involves a binder jet 3D printer and a high temperature atmosphere control furnace and a vacuum system to convert the 3D printed parts to porous carbon parts with potential commercial applications in high/low temperature filtration, sound isolation/absorption and thermal insulation applications, to name a few.
