Redox flow battery without electrodes. The membrane is selectively permeable only for electrons and transmembrane electron transport leads to the ideal transmembrane voltage described by the Nernst equation. A working prototype and a short video of how the battery moves a propeller and gives energy to a small electric lamp. The battery, which works with aqueous solutions, is much lighter, smaller, cheaper, and safer than a conventional redox flow battery. No expensive vanadium or nonstable biological molecules are used. All the advantages of traditional redox flow batteries are preserved, but the battery assembly is much simpler. Recharging takes a few minutes, many times faster than for Li battery. Recall that no electrodes are in biological cells, but we are still alive! In my case, the process gives a much higher voltage than in nerve membranes, because I use the difference of redox potentials between two solutions instead of ion selectivity like in a nerve membrane.
