POLYDIACETYLENE BIOSENSOR
[Category : - Organic Chemistry]
[Viewed 320 times]
This is the latest of three progressive patents that are combined in this offering. Along with rnUS Patent # 9,023,660, additional patents are US Patent # 8,361,810 and US Patent # 7,527,981.rnrnThese patents cover a foundational technology using the integration of polydiacetylene into a substrate to visually and colorimetricaly detect a single or multiple analytes in a substrate (paper, cloth, fiber, plastic, hydrogel, aerogel, electro spun fibers etc.).rnThe integration of polydiacetylene creates a 3-dimensional matrix creating significantly more reactive surface area and allows for an amplified signal through wavelength amplification. Polydiacetylene as an assay demonstrates a very high sensitivity and selectivity combined with a fast colorimetric reaction time. Polydiacetylene is also unique in that it is a one-step sensing process; a secondary reagent isn’t required. Most other processes require taking a sample and submitting it for testing. Monitoring is continual and an infection/contamination is immediately recognizable, not just when a sample is taken and tested.rnThis technology also allows its integration into existing products creating a “value add” and an immediate product release. Through this business approach, modifying existing products to have a visual sensor such as food packaging, labels, wound wraps, tissue, masks, gloves, environmental sensing HVAC systems, etc., we create a very broad and unique market.rnAlthough the patents show a process for the automation of inserting liposomes into a slurry process for the creation of a bulk paper product, the claims represent a much broader foundational technology for mass production in a variety of substrates using paper, cloth, electro spun fibers, plastic, hydrogel, aerogel, etc. The slurry process is demonstrated as an example of a low-cost product, through mass production, with scales of economy for a large commercial enterprise. We have also identified the necessary tooling for bulk production of liposomes and substrate integration.rnThis technology has also been validated through many third-party white papers. A simple search on Google Scholar will provide a plethora of white papers showing the ability of polydiacetylene to visually detect bacteria, viruses, toxins, chemicals, VOC’s, antibodies, and other analytes. These papers also demonstrate polydiacetylene’s very high sensitivity and selectivity combined with a fast reaction time. It can also provide quantitative analysis through signal strength. Many of these papers depict a product that if commercially produced, would violate these patents.rnProducts that may be created with these patents include but are not limited to; wound dressings to visually detect MRSA and other skin infections, masks that can detect influenza, pneumonia, TB, smallpox, Ebola, plague, anthrax etc. Food packaging to detect E-Coli-0157, Salmonella, aflatoxin, shigella, botulism, etc. Other products may include analytes such as VOC’s, chemicals, nerve agents, heavy metals etc. With integration into existing products like tissues, wound wraps, envelopes, food packaging, medical masks, gowns, gloves, common articles can become sensing agents.rnThis technology may also be used to trace the source of contamination through multiple triggers and cross-contamination in bulk processing such as in mail and food processing creating a visual path to the origin of the infection/contamination.rnThrough the development of this technology, we have used the resources of a major Texas university and have attracted the interest of many fortune 50 companies and pharmaceutical corporations. The co-inventor and I have fine-tuned a business plan where we have contemplated all the challenges of a large-scale product release. rnSince the of the passing of the co-inventor and losing contact with most of the connections he was speaking with, I have decided to sell this offering as I no longer have the drive to launch and manage a business of this size. Business plans, production designs, logos, trademarks, financial projections are all included. rn
