Range anxiety is the biggest problem with Electric Vehicles (EV) and is why they are not selling well. EVs are fine for short commutes to work and the store, but not good for long distance drives. Beyond the capacity of the battery, EVs need to be recharged at a charging station. This may take several hours, or worse if you have to wait in line for a charger, or find one that works, or is compatible. A one-day trip may now take several days with an EV. In addition, half of people live in apartments or have no garage to charge at home. All this makes EVs impractical for most people.

A good solution is to make the batteries in EVs swappable, so you can drive to any swapping station and get a fully recharged battery in a minute. This patent is for those kinds of swapping stations. It is a comprehensive and inclusive patent, that includes permanent swapping structures and portable swapping facilities like a swapping trailer that can be placed at any gas station.

This kind of EV infrastructure can be economically viable with only 20% of EVs using the swapping system. NIO is already doing this with swapping stations across China and now in Europe. This system needs to be implemented in the US, and this patent will give the owner all rights for the US market.

This patent also includes any kind of swappable fuel, like for hydrogen vehicles, and even simple automated refueling stations. These markets include all kinds of commercial and military vehicles. This is a very valuable Patent!

Shown below is a scaled prototype of the PERIC portable EV battery swapping station that can be placed at gas stations to support the transition to an all EV economy. It holds and charges 12 batteries at a time. The driver simply drives onto the swapping trailer and the machine swaps the battery with a fully charged one in less than a minute. The driver pays at an ATM without getting out of the vehicle. This PERIC swapping trailer can be built in a factory and sold for $100,000, or rented to the gas station owners. Battery swapping EVs will be special, where the battery is not included with the cost of the vehicle making them much more affordable. An infrastructure of swappable batteries will supply the batteries for the swapping stations and the special EVs. A battery rental plan will pay for these batteries and can be based on usage. This strategy will make owning an EV much more affordable with small monthly rental payments for the battery usage.
