This 3-patent-portfolio includes technology to improve the efficiency and operating characteristics of rotary turbines, generators/alternators, engines/motors, products and equipment. Rotary energy generation and storage improvements are provided for higher renewable energy efficiency and production from much lower input air/fluid flow than with conventional technology.
Applications for this technology relate to flywheels, clutches, turbines, centrifuges, gyros/gyroscopes, and also directly relatable to wind, water, steam, and renewable power generation and storage.
Special features include pulsed power generation and storage methods for use with low-fluid/air flow for turbines, a centrifugal and smart-controlled clutch, a counterweight balanced centrifugal displacement mass of a flywheel, adjustable displacement to control the RPM and energy storage range, and a method to mitigate air resistance of the flywheel. The variable displacement can change the RPM incrementally during storage, and then discharge incrementally or in a fast or step function.
Other features include the following.
• Maintain the wind/steam/water power generators at the sweet spot RPM speed for efficiency and/or frequency stabilization with input flow/power variations.
• Maintain centrifuges at a constant RPM for regulating G-load on a specimen or unit under test with input flow/power variations.
• Maintain an optimum frequency or output power conversion from a rotary UPS or synchronous motor/generators.
• Improve efficiency and regulate smooth energy production from pulsed power sources such as ocean wave and pulsed jet engine examples.
• Provide very high pulsed-power to a laser or rail gun at high RPMs on demand from stored rotary energy.
• Maintain or stabilize gyros at the RPM speed for best operation.
• Limit the maximum RPM speed for windmill and turbine rotor blade life and safety with input flow/power variations.
• Grid power stabilization of maintaining frequency and voltage with input flow/power variations.
• Progressively accumulate stored energy from a very low power source with constant, near-constant, or low RPM for high stored energy source when needed, such as from solar, wind, water, steam, etc.
• Replace batteries, capacitors, motor-generators, gas-fueled microturbines, rotary Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), high RPM flywheels, kinetic rotary energy storage and for power grid can store wind and PV power until it is needed, etc. as energy storage sources.
• Improve turbine and centrifuge designs and limitations, such as providing means of very fast RPM speed changes without adding or dumping electrical power, reducing drag from air or fluid friction.
• Provide on-demand changes or non-changes to RPM or torque for motors and/or transmissions with source or load power requirements.
