AUTOMATICALLY DISPLACING A FAULTY BATTERY IN EVs TO CARRY ON
[Category : - Navigation and orientation]
[Viewed 322 times]
My invention is about a fault tolerant battery system utilizing a spare battery to displace a failing battery. It may be used in an electric equipment, such as electric vehicle (EV), powered by a serially-connected batteries to continue its operation despite a battery failure (also referred to as "faulty battery bypass"). As known, one faulty battery in the series would disable the entire series, causing the EV to abruptly stop operation on the roadway without warning. As a result, a rear-end collision on the roadway may occur, causing property damages, and/or injuries or deaths to occupants of crashing vehicles. Currently, there are no working solutions provided by EV manufacturers, including Tesla, which would instantaneously stop the vehicle from operation upon detecting a battery failure. Many such battery-failing incidents have occurred on the road, requiring EV recalls as officially documented by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). I have submitted through an attorney a petition for rulemaking (49 CFR § 552) to NHTSA, requesting the NHTSA's attention to address critical regulatory gaps and provide necessary guidance within the EV industry (such as mandating EV manufacturers to implement a bypass of a faulty battery). Technology for implementing such bypass is available.rnrn
