Flappy Johns

[Category : - HEALTH- DESIGN PATENTS]
[Viewed 679 times]

My father and I invented this garment after I was bed ridden for 6 months due to a car accident in which I went head on with a loaded tractor trailer rig at 60 mph, breaking most of my lower extremities, left arm, and traumatizing much of my body. I was in a wheel chair for an additional 12 months, unable to put weight on my legs/hips for more than a few seconds at a time. I had to personally live through the terrible experience of wearing a traditional hospital gown like millions of people have or currently are that left me exposed during the most vulnerable time of my life. Those days can now be placed behind us and we can move forward to a brighter future. Flappy Johns lays on top of the lower extremities of a patient much like the gown. It’s main application is to be used on patients that are bed ridden or wheel chair bound, however, it can be utilized on a wide range of patients. The traditional hospital gown is absolutely terrible and it doesn’t even keep the patient’s private area covered all the time. Examples include when a patient raises his/her legs for traction/cast, you can see straight up the gown, virtually making it useless for the patient. Also, when a patient is in traction or cast, or even running a fever above 102 degrees, covering them with sheets or blanket isn’t an option. During labor, prostate exams, urinary dr, lower GI exams, and a long list of others examinations/test or surgery, the traditional gown just doesn’t cut it. If the patient has to use a catheter and/or bed pan, such I had to, the traditional gown can be difficult to move out of the way while keeping the patient’s private area covered at the same time, also, having to use those medical devices does not allow the patient to wear pants of any kind.. If a patient is fortunate enough to be able to get up and walk, their back side is hanging out for everyone to see. Allow the patient to wear a pair of Flappy Johns on them backwards, and the problem of their rear shining to everyone is solved. Flappy Johns, incorporates a flap between the legs (patented), which falls with gravity when the patient raises his/her legs, keeping private area covered at all times while also allowing use of catheter, bed pan, wound VAC, colostomy bag, IV’s, etc without being intrusive or impeding. All while still allowing easy access for medical staff to perform their job. Flappy Johns uses stretchy elastic straps located at the waist, knees, and ankles that wrap around the patient, along with plastic snaps which allow securing to the patient either loosely or tight, whichever is desired. Or it can just be placed on top and not fastened at all if patient isn’t able to move much. It can also be easily and quickly removed off patient in case of an emergency without having to cut knots or strings, avoiding damage to the garment. The stretchable elastic allows Flappy Johns to be fastened around a patient’s lower extremities that may be swollen and/or in a cast. Many have tried to “redesign” the traditional gown only to come up with one that fully wraps around the patient, however, it has only increased costs substantially. ($40+ per gown) Even more so, fully wrapping a patient will not help when their legs are raised and/or they must use catheter and/or bed pan. All patients can’t be “wrapped” with a gown anyways, too difficult and would cause more problem than benefits. A patient in a wheelchair, has difficulty getting pants on, having to be held upright by 2 or more people to balance and get legs in pants. Assuming they do not have to use medical devices such as catheter, colostomy bag, wounds VAC, IV’S, etc. If they do have to use any of those devices, pants are not even an option, as it is extremely difficult to work with those devices and not cause extreme discomfort or having to remove/replace said devices each time. Flappy Johns can easily be placed over patient’s lower extremities while patient remains seated and fastened using elastic straps and plastic snaps. All while keeping the patient comfortable and still allowing the use of medical devices with easy access to clean patient or replace devices as needed or perform medical test/exams. Way better than a blanket covering their lower extremities that can get caught in the wheels and pulling off patient or causing injury. Flappy Johns can be produced and sold much cheaper and works more efficiently than any “redesigned” gown. Every patient that is made to wear a hospital gown, can benefit from Flappy Johns, given the option to use them.. With millions of patients currently being forced to live in a hospital bed or wheelchair, rather at a medical facility or at home, due to an accident or physical condition, they need Flappy Johns yesterday. Medical professionals in my home state of Arkansas, whom I have spoke with directly, love Flappy Johns and say they would use it on a daily basis. They want to utilize Flappy Johns as soon as possible. From orthopedic surgeons, OBGYN clinics, gastro clinics, urinary clinics, radiology labs, and even family practitioners. Let’s make it happen and give people their dignity back?

Financial information

Over 6,000 hospitals just in the US alone.
Over 34 million patients admitted to those hospitals every single year.
Over 3 million people in a wheelchair in the US alone, with 65 million wheelchair users world wide.
Over 10k OBGYN clinics and over 12k gastroenterology clinics in just the US.
Ambulance services across the US, not exactly sure, but in the thousands if not millions if I had to guess. Each ambulance you see on the road could have four pair of a Flappy Johns on board at all times, one of each size.
Potential use of this garment is huge, in the millions, as you can tell.

Go to Google, search for an article titled “Exposing Hospital Gowns”, that article will explain to you how patients and medical professionals alike feel about the hospital gown. It’s time for a change, and Flappy Johns is that change.

If you are a parent, would you be ok with your child being left exposed because the traditional gown wasn’t enough? Or would you help them be covered better?

The hospital gown market size is currently $4.2 billion and growing at a rapid pace, thanks in part to the Covid pandemic and growing medical issues.

Reach out to me and let’s make something happen? before this opportunity is gone bc I found someone else to invest in it and launch it with me.
