Fire hydrant with automatic drain valve

[Category : - OTHER- DESIGN PATENTS]
[Viewed 956 times]

My fire hydrant idea with automatic drain valve would be a great new design for a fire hydrant or you can modify any existing hydrant in the ground with this idea and these steps will tell you how you can modify an existing hydrant The idea to modify an existing hydrant would be that first it needs to be connected to a secondary shut off valve. The secondary shut-off valve when this is done will be your primary operating valve. 1st step is to take all the inner parts out of the hydrant. "Valve stem, valve, valve seat, ect, ect" 2nd step is to drill a hole in the bottom of your hydrant " shoe" a 2" round hole. " We used a simple cone bit from harbor freight" to do this step.. 3rd step is to install the automatic drain valve that has a rubber lining with it's mounted service loop for retracting or for inserting into the hole in the shoe, In our model we used a standard sprinkler system automatic drain valve. There are some more high performance drain valves that we haven't tested yet but this one did the job! 4th step is to take the valve seat and block the factory drainage holes on it and then reinstall it. 5th step is to install an extension on the secondary shut off valve riser with a valve stem connecting to the valve with a 5 sided nut on top for a hydrant wrench to operate the valve off/on.
This makes so there's only 2 parts that can go bad. The drain valve, which can be easily serviced. Or the secondary shut off valve, which is your primary operating valve. This idea will only work with hydrants connected to a secondary shut off. Majority of hydrants I'm familiar with all have basically the same drain design for this modification to work, even the Pacific States models. And this can all be done with the hydrant in the ground. If you have any questions you can leave a message on this site, there's pictures below to help explain this idea if needed. Thanks you.
