Our client's researchers have developed and patented a biodegradable and biocompatible nanoparticle formulation for efficient intracellular delivery and integration of miRNAs that can also be tracked by magnetic resonance imaging (fluorine radiotracer). This is a powerful enabling tool kit for the expanding market in gene-based medicines and other potential applications.
These nanoparticles are well-suited to RNA drug delivery systems, having high drug loading capacity, stability (in aqueous environments and for long-term storage); they are also non-toxic and non-immunogenic. The incorporation of an imaging agent in the formulation (such as perfluorocarbon) allows monitoring of nanoparticle transfection efficiency and bio distribution.
This technology could potentially provide an alternative route for transfecting cells in vivo that does not rely on competing proprietary methods that are currently in commercial use, such as lipid nanoparticles and adeno-associated virus (AAV).
