Method for identifying objects by searching for labels with linear and two-dimensional codes

Searching for items such as books or products to buy from large bookstores or supermarket shelves is an operation that can take a lot of time.
The cataloging and indexing systems adopted up to now partially solve the problem because books, objects and products must be rigorously placed in assigned position.
A system that frees you from this constraint but makes the search faster and more precise would be a great step forward not only for the well-being of the user but also for improving the efficiency and costs of managing the systems.
For example, imagine the difficulty of searching through thousands of books in a bookstore; difficulty increased by factors such as small characters on the spine that force you to remove the book from the shelf to check the cover.
Another situation is the search by genre in an arrangement of books on the shelves by alphabetical order or by publisher or by author.
And if the search is more than one volume, the difficulty increases enormously.
It may also happen that you search by author in a library organized by genre; the individual volumes of an author could be randomly scattered in various genres and, therefore, in different shelves and bookcases.
To mitigate this problem, the most obvious system is to catalog, classify and position the books on the shelves in a precise order reported in a written index so that at the time of the search you know more or less where to look. This system is very demanding in terms of the tasks to be carried out to organize and maintain the catalog and the positioning on the shelves.
Without considering that it is not very sure because if a book is placed in the wrong position, its finding could be very long.

In a supermarket the situation is very similar: the need can be to search by gender, product name or manufacturer etc.
The solution is similar to that of a library, you first decide where to place the objects and then consult an index or map or guide.
There are a great many human activities in which the search for objects in a similar situation requires this kind of effort.
Warehouses, shops, museums and many other places where there is a need to identify the position of a physical object (it could also be virtual).
