The current philosophy of vehicle occupant safety focuses on saving the vehicle and coincidentally saving the occupants. Except for airbags which are impact activated most sensor warnings alert the driver and rely on driver reaction. The current trend toward driverless vehicles indicates this philosophy is out of date and requires reconsideration. My occupant safety philosophy focuses on safety of the occupant. The vehicle is sacrificial. My crash seat does not depend on human awareness or reaction to warning alerts. Associated proximity sensors built into the vehicle will activate my safety seat upon an imminent impact warning signal. This activation time is faster than human awareness and reaction time. My cocoon seat repositions occupants and shields them from injury due to impact and airborne debris. The safety seat includes a seat bottom, a backrest, and a headrest. The seat is pivotally secured to the floor and frame of a vehicle. Upon an impact signal the seat will recline immediately in advance of an impact. An electro-mechanical system reclines the seat. The safety seat further includes telescoping shields that are secured within the sides of the seat bottom, backrest, and headrest. Upon an impact signal, the shields are pneumatically projected from the safety seat, creating a protective cocoon around the occupant. A pneumatic system deploys the shields and after a timed period, the shields are retracted by the same system, assisted by a mechanical device allowing the occupant to vacate the vehicle.
