The Seat Saver
[Category : - DESIGN PATENTS- Furnitures- Security and alarms]
[Viewed 693 times]
My patent is for a device that I have nicknamed the 'Seat Saver'. The device is a small rectangular shaped unit that attaches to a deck chair or sun lounger such as the ones usually found poolside at resort hotels or on cruise ships. The Seat Saver's purpose is to indicate whether a deck chair or sun lounger is in use or available regardless of a person physically occupying the chair. The problem that the Seat Saver is intended to mitigate is the ongoing issue of poolside deck chairs being reserved by the placement of various personal effects and towels on the chair during prolonged and unreasonable absences.
Any seasoned traveler has encountered the phenomena. Whether it be at an all-inclusive resort or on a cruise ship; shoes, towels, sunglasses, shoes, books, fruit (yes, even fruit!) strategically placed on the sun lounger to show occupancy, while the guest leaves the chair vacant for several hours!
Here's how the Seat Saver is intended to work. The unit is comprised of two indicator lights. 1 red, 1 green. An internal timer is built in to activate the lights. The timer is customizable to the administrator's preferred time duration; 90, 60, 30 minutes duration etc... When a guest is physically occupying the chair, there is nothing he/she needs to do. When vacating the chair for a short absence, the guest will activate a 'push button' style switch on the device. This will illuminate the Red light and signal the internal timer to begin counting down the minutes. When the timer reaches zero, the Green light is illuminated and the Red light extinguishes. Green indicating chair availability, Red indicating chair occupancy.
The newly arrived guest at poolside will now be able to determine at a glance whether a sun lounger is available or not regardless of the personal effects left behind on it's surface .The hotel or cruise line administrators will now have an effective tool at their disposal to enforce chair reservation policy. This will put an end to guest confrontations over chair occupancy. The pool attendants will be able to intervene in guest disputes with confidence now that there will be an impartial virtual judge deciding on chair availability.
The 'Seat Saver''s design is low cost for mass production. Very simple technology, solid state for durability. The vacation resort and cruise line industry are virtually untapped. Nobody is offering this feature yet. Be the first to put it out there!
Available for licensing....
'Chair Hogging' will finally come to an end at your favorite resort or on your favorite cruise ship thanks to the 'Seat Saver'!
