The present invention provides a sustainable catalytic process for production of methacrylic acid from biomass derived feedstocks. The method comprises the decarboxylation of bio-based carboxylic acids at temperature range from 150-300 °C and pressure range from 5 to 100 bar over heterogeneous catalysts.
