CARD TABLE WHOSE LEGS CAN ALL BE EXTENDED AND LOCKED IN 6 SECONDS

[Category : - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING- OTHER- Furnitures]
[Viewed 786 times]

The legs on this table are connected by linkages making them move simultaneously. A 27 second video of my prototype is on my website. Picture 1 shows that the moment arm is nearly as long as theoretically possible for maximum stability. Picture 2 shows a design change that improves stability. Picture 3 shows the start of the leg opening process. Picture 4 shows the locking and unlocking processes. Picture 5 shows the table deployed and supporting a load. An OpenScad program representing all of its parts fully assembled in 3D and the spreadsheet feeding it are available on request. The design is mathematically described and so can be precisely modified , not arrived at by trial and error.

Financial information

14 gauge sheet metal parts are cut by a laser cutting service. Folds are with a vice mounted air bender. Most sheet metal connections and hinges use pop rivets. Center pivot is held in place with thin sheet metal banding held taut by slightly bent frame pieces. Fiber glass rods guide the arms so they latch consistently. I believe this version of the table can be made with about $150 worth of parts.
The table weighs 12 pounds, about the same as a traditional wood frame table we have. I have thought that staff and residents of assisted living facilities would like them. I have also considered catering companies would too. Anybody wanting a fun to use table unlike any other in the world also is our target audience.

Upon request you can have the files for the OpenScad model and spreadsheet that feeds the model. I have most of dxf files for laser cutting and frame pieces. Some need minor revisions.
