Pull String Advancing Tool/Wall Fishing Sticks

The Pull String Advancing Tool is tailored especially for remodel work where the walls have already been finished. The tool provides a way to install a pull string needed for the run of electrical between cutouts. This is useful for the running of a non-metallic sheathed electrical cable or low voltage cables. There are many instances where fire blocks, top plates, bottom plates, or studs block the easy run of a pull string. Without the pull string, pulling electrical through these areas is difficult or impossible. Many times, construction workers elect to cut out a piece of finished wall to have access to where the electrical will run. This adds the cost and time of patch and paint or repair. Additionally, installing a wall patch to match the rest of the wall is difficult and time-consuming when a paint match is not present or when the finished wall is made of wood panel. The figures of the patent illustrate how this tool installs a pull string in closed-off areas without the need to damage finished walls or ceilings.

Two main features that make this tool better than currently used fiberglass sticks include the measurement marks on the sticks and the magnets on the end of the sticks. This allows for the installer to measure the span between the two cut-outs, divide this number by two, and then enter the sticks through the cut-outs at this measurement. Once the magnet ends of the sticks are within a few inches of each other, the magnet end with a string attached is attracted to the other stick without string attached. The solid stick is then pulled back through its cutout bringing with it the other magnet and string. Now a pull string is through the previously inaccessible space. This saves time and money.

Projects that this tool could be used for include; running wires for TV wall mount installs, remodel can light installs, remodel electrical box installs, and low voltage runs for WIFI router installs. This makes the tool marketable to contractors and do-it-yourself homeowners. Another advantage to selling this tool includes repeat purchases. Currently, fiberglass rods tend to be used as consumable tools within electrical companies and are slightly comparable to a saw blade that wears out. After extensive install use, current fiberglass rods wear out and break leading to repeat purchases. I anticipate that the same would be true of this tool.
