Systems and methods for removing phosphorous from wastewater

[Category : - DESIGN PATENTS]
[Viewed 915 times]

Systems and methods for removing phosphorous (P) from P-containing wastewater are disclosed. The system includes a main filter unit (MFU) comprising P-adsorbing material. The MFU receives the P-containing wastewater and forms therefrom MFU-filtered wastewater having a first pH. A pH adjusting unit (AU) that contains pH-reducing material receives the MFU-filtered wastewater and forms therefrom AU-filtered wastewater having a second pH lower than the first pH. A replaceable filter unit (RFU) similar to the MFU but smaller may be arranged upstream of the MFU to pre-filter the P-containing wastewater. Some or all of the RFU may be replaced when maintaining the system.

The Market
Excess Phosphorus (P) caused by human activities leads to blue algae growth in water basins which results in depleted oxygen levels and diminishing world’s water supplies. P pollution has been recognized as one of the most pressing water and environmental quality issue worldwide. The only currently available method for industrial and utility P removal requires excessive chemical salt additions, creating additional sewage sludge for disposal. Moreover, there are no solutions for reducing P from agricultural activities. Thus, emerging demand for new cost-effective solutions is spread across multiple customer segments and has a considerable growth potential. Assuming only 10% voluntary adoption of P removal solutions, the US addressable market may exceed $73 billion. Following the introduction of regulatory requirements, market potential can increase at least 10-fold.
Due to the way our patent is crafted, and the applicability of the technology to any pollution source, it addresses all customer segments:
1. Utility: water & wastewater utility companies
2. Agricultural: livestock production, dairy products, crop and food production
3. Residential: onsite residential wastewater treatment for home owners
4. Municipal: municipal, regional & state/country governments, lake associations, citizens groups
5. Industrial: golf industry, steel industry, coal mining, petroleum refineries, electronic components industry

We are interested to sell, and/or license our patent. We are also open to establishment of partnership.

We are also co-owners of a PhosphoReduc Trademark, granted in December 2019.

Our asking price for the patent is minimum $150,000 (negotiable). A trademark would be extra cost.
