PROCESS FOR PRODUCING POLYMER MATERIALS
[Category : - OTHER- CHEMISTRY]
[Viewed 1072 times]
A process for the thermal-radiation treatment of blanks to produce polymer materials having improved operational characteristics, in particular polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and other types of fluoroplastics. Blanks are treated with high-energy ionizing radiation at a temperature strictly higher than the melting temperature of the crystalline phase of the polymer in an oxygen-free environment. Treatment is carried out using a pulsed linear electron accelerator which generates ionizing radiation. Alpha-radiation, gamma radiation, electron-beam radiation, high-energy protons and neutrons, and radiation from natural sources are used for treatment. After being treated with ionizing radiation, the polymer is subjected to thermal treatment. The treatment method provides an increase in the physical and mechanical properties of a material while ensuring the consistency and programmability of said physical and mechanical properties.
