ORTHOGONAL TURBINE for hydro-, wave- and wind power plants

The invention relates to wind and hydraulic power engineering and can be used at tidal power plants, low-head run-of-river hydraulic power plants, wave energy plants and wind power plants with wind energy concentrators. The aim of the invention is to increase the efficiency factor of the turbine by reducing the relative power of the idle streams in the flow chamber of an orthogonal turbine. Main features of orthogonal turbine: Rotation direction and characteristics of these turbines do not depend on flow direction. Efficiency of bi-directional orthogonal turbines exceeds 70%. Design of turbine is simple and production-friendly. Possible to use multi-storied power units, consisting of several turbines on the same vertical shaft. Large throughput capacity of turbine in idle mode. Since 2005 several orthogonal turbines have been successfully tested at the Kislogubskaya Tidal Power Plant, small hydropower unit, wave power unit. Results of these studies enabled to further increase efficiency and economical characteristics of such power units.
