A telemetric device fitted to the hoof of a horse, comprises a number of load sensors to measure the weight passing through the hoof to ground at the position of the sensor. The load sensors are mounted at spaced intervals on a pad located between the hoof and a horseshoe. Alternatively the load sensors may be mounted in/on/under the horseshoe itself. The device may include a global positioning (GPS) receiver, and may be provided with a transponder for interrogation by at least one antenna disposed around a course. Measured data is wirelessly transmitted to a computer or data acquisition system.
