A container transportation assembly, preferably suitable for carrying hazardous materials such as nuclear waste, comprises of a track 12 along which containers 14 are slidably moveable, the track 12 having at least two intersecting track sections. A first container guide device comprising a moveable support positioned below one of the track sections, and at least one container guide extending from the moveable support, for translating a container 14 along the respective track section. A second container guide device comprising a moveable support positioned above the other one of the track sections, and at least one container guide extending from the moveable support, for translating a container 14 along the respective track section. A method of transporting containers 14 using the container transportation assembly is also disclosed.
