SAFETY CAP FOR AN OSTOMY BAG
[Category : - HEALTH]
[Viewed 1395 times]
When my wife Karen was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer, it was necessary for her to wear a bile bag (which is common among pancreatic cancer patients) . The bile bag was drained by the Moffitt hospital staff several times a day. Very often, the bag leaked from the drain tube onto Karen's clothes and/or bed coverings. which required that these be changed out since Karen was undergoing both radiation and chemotherapy. Karen was very modest and it was very tough for her to strip off her clothes while her gown and sheets were changed.. To help her, I invented the SAF-T-KAP (K is for Karen). This prevented these leaks and the staff at Moffitt Cancer Center encouraged me to patent the device (it saved them lots of time by preventing the leakage and added another barrier to biological contamination).. After Karen passed away on Christmas Day 2008, I decided that to honor her and help many of people of the 40,000 new cases of pancreatic cancer in the United States each year, I would try to patent the device (which I did). I have spoken to many of them and their families in the years since ,and, they always say that the device would have been very helpful. The device will work on many different types of ostomy bags (not only bile bags). The SAF-T-KAP is inexpensive to manufacture and the potential market is very large (the SAF-T-KAP is thrown away and a new SAF-T-KAP is installed with each new drainage which is every few hours for each patient).
Financial informationThe SAF-T-KAP is made with inexpensive materials and the potential market is very large. There are more than 40.000 new cases of pancreatic cancer in the United States each year. Many, if not most, will have a common bile duct blockage at some point and will require a bile bag. The SAF-T-KAP is replaced for each patient (after the bag is drained) several times a day. The SAF-T-KAP, due to its adjustable design, will work with other ostomy bags other than just bile bags.. There is also a larger market for the SAF-T-KAP in Europe.
There are three factors which will drive the market for the SAF-T-KAP
1. The patient care 2. The reduction in work required by the hospital staff in the reduction of the work required in replacing patient clothing and bed coverings 3. a reduction to patients and hospital staff to exposure to a biohazard. Im looking to sell the patent to recoup the expenses that I incurred in securing the patent. I also own the SAF-T-KAP domain name.
