Household Biogas System

The HBS is a compact design to generate bio-gas from everyday household organic waste to reduce over-dependence on fossil fuel gas supply system. The substrate feed can be any of: human waste, animal waste, organic waste from the kitchen, or a mixture of any of these. Unlike previous designs, it does not accumulate waste and it eliminates the need for many peripheral equipment, such as heaters, separator tanks, heat sources and dedicated pumps to achieve economic differentiation. In addition it has early payback, suitable for use and compatible with the high standard of living in OECD countries. The basic system comprises of 2 inverted cone "reactors", with feed from the household toilet flush system gradationally fed via inclined serrated pipe work to separate the solid wastes from the excess flush water volume, this avoids the use of separation tanks; it also includes an air sealed auxiliary feed sprout is also provided for feeding the reactor with animal and organic kitchen waste; and a cylindrical tank for biogas storage. Further, the system includes the use of long shaft dual impeller agitator, able to travel in both directions. In the clockwise rotation, the agitator increases process materials contact time during low temperatures to avoid the use of heat source, while it aids the transfer of residual material in the reverse direction to eliminate the use of dedicated pump.
