The STROBEALERT is an electronic system that helps emergency personnel identify the location of a 911 distress call by means of a window-mounted strobe light. The system is comprised of a transmitter unit and a strobe light receiving unit and works as follows: A window is selected that faces the street where it can be seen by emergency vehicles. The strobe light unit is attached to the window by means of suction cups and then plugged into a 110-volt outlet. The phone jack nearest to the strobe light is then identified. The phone line from the wall is plugged into the incoming jack of the transmitter. Another line is then plugged into the outgoing jack of the transmitter and into the phone. The transmitter is also plugged into a 110-volt outlet. When a 911 call is placed, a dtmf decoder inside the transmitter housing identifies the three digit sequence of numbers. The decoder then activates a high frequency transmitter(similar to that of a garage door opener) which sends a signal to the receiving unit in the strobe light. Once the signal is received, the strobe light is activated and starts flashing. The unit will for 60 minutes until stopped by an internal timer or can be reset by a manual reset button mounted on the strobe light housing.
