1. Donald Raiano – USA

2. The Medical Assistance App

3. The Medical Assistance app is an application designed to operate on IOS and/or Android-based cell phones. The app is designed to assist the user in managing all of their medical information. It is also able to keep a full account of all of the medications that the user is currently taking. It is also able to recall the profiles of family members that the user has additionally built into the app. The user is also able to keep track of each medication’s total dosage, time taken and reason for taking it. The app can also directly dial 991 in the case of an emergency.

4. Once the user has turned on their mobile device and downloaded the Medical Assistance app, they can start the app by clicking on the app’s corresponding icon from the phone’s application screen. Once the app has started, the user is presented with 5 options. These 5 options include “Profiles”, “Medicine Times”, “My Notes”, “Emergency Contacts” and “Emergency Dial 911”. Each of these options can be clicked on to allow the user to initiate different functions. The “Profiles” option, when selected, displays the profile page for the main user of the phone. This includes their full name, address, phone number and a list of individuals related to the user. This may include sons, daughters, grandparents, or parents. Here, the user is able to add a family member and manually enter their details as well as the list of medications (names, dosages, when it is taken…etc.) that that person takes. The user can also delete or modify the details of any individual that they choose. The “Medicine Times” option, when selected, displays all of the medications that the MAIN USER of the phone is currently taking. This would also include all of the details for those medications (names, dosages, when it is taken…etc.) Here, the user can add new medications, remove old medications and modify an existing medication’s details. This allows the user to keep track of all of his/her current medications. Additionally, the user can program the app to send a notification as a reminder to take a medication. The “My Notes” option, when selected, displays a list of notes that the user has manually entered into the app. Here, the user can add new notes, delete notes and modify existing notes. These notes may include a reminder to take a specific medication with food, if he/she is allergic to a food or a medication or if certain medication causes side effects. The notes section would function as a personal notepad where the user can manually type exactly what they want using the keypad of the phone. This allows the user to remember something specifically and easily. The “Emergency Contacts” option, when selected, displays all of the emergency contacts that the main user of the phone has built into the app. This would also include all of the details for those emergency contacts (name, address, phone number…etc.) Here, the user can add new emergency contacts, remove old emergency contacts and modify an existing contact’s details. Additionally, while the details of the contact are displayed, the user can click on the phone number of the contact to allow the phone to automatically dial that contact’s number. This allows the user to keep track of all of his/her emergency contacts such as a primary care physician, a pulmonologist or a chiropractor. The “Emergency Dial 911” option, when selected, automatically dials 911 on the phone while simultaneously displaying the main user’s profile and their list of medications on the screen. Additionally, when this option is selected, the phone automatically dials 911 and places the phone onto speaker phone. This allows the user to be able to communicate on the phone while having a list of all of their medications right in front of them. Also, should the user be hard of hearing, they will be able to hear the person on the other end of the line more clearly while still being able to read the list of their medications for reference.

5. There are several benefits to using the Medical Assistance app. First, it allows the user to keep an updated list of all of the medications that he/she is currently taking. It provides the name of each of their medications along with each medication’s dosage, when it is taken and why it is taken. When the user visits the hospital or doctor’s office, they can easily provide a list of all of their medications without having to remember all of the details. Also, should a user want to keep track of a family member’s medications, they can do so. For example, if someone passes out and a nearby family member calls 911, they can easily provide the details of what medications that person is currently taking as he/she would be unresponsive. Third, the Medical Assistance app simplifies the process of dialing 911. It is much easier to open one app with one click and then click the emergency dial 911 button with a second click as opposed to having to open the phone, dial 911 and then having to hit the dial button. Also, for individuals who may be visually impaired, it is much easier to click a large red button as opposed to several small numbers. Lastly, the Medical Assistance app eliminates the need to remember when to actually take the medication. The user can simply view a list of medications and when to take them. This prevents the user from forgetting that they take a specific medication or forgetting when to take it. With the added reminder feature, the user can even set a reminder ahead of time to take a medication.

6. The Medical Assistance app solves a few problems. First, it prevents the user from forgetting what medications they or any other relatives take and when to take them. It also prevents the user from forgetting what condition each medication is for. When the user visits the hospital, this also prevents the hospital from possibly having inaccurate or incomplete data on the patient’s medications. The added notes option also allows the user to remember allergies, side notes or other concerns. Secondly, the Medical Assistance app also solves the problem of not being able to contact anyone in the case of an emergency. The user would have easy access to a list of all emergency contacts as well as a list of all of their medical specialists. Should the user forget who their chiropractor is for example, they can easily access the list for quick reference. Lastly, the Medial Assistance app solves the problem of not being able to physically dial 911 in the case of an emergency. The user can open up the app and simply dial 911 with only one click required while still being able to communicate the details of his/her medications.
