Circuit protection device add-on module

A device for controlling and communicating with a circuit protection device attaches to the front part of the device and comprises communication means, an electronic controller 11, a power supply 9 and an actuator 8 to change the position of the device handle and is of a size within the limits of a standard circuit protection device front part. The communication means can comprise phototransistor 10 for bidirectional data transfer with the protection device and power and data bus connection 7 for connection to a network gateway (fig 4, 22) which can connect to plural add-on devices to transmit and receive measurement data such as status, current, voltage, contact resistance and temperature, using typically a USB, Ethernet, RS232 or similar protocol.
