Monocoque manufacturing in the Earth's atmosphere and beyond

[Category : - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING- OTHER]
[Viewed 1420 times]

Aviation engineers will be able to design an airframe as a single (continuous) shell from the nose to the tail of the aircraft having the required aerodynamic shape and integrating load-bearing elements from the interior. The shell and the load-bearing elements can vary in thickness, if necessary, to ensure the required structural rigidity.
Now the frame consisting of load-bearing elements (frames/ribs, spars, stringers), can also be projected as tangle (at various angles). Metal frame structure may pass into polymer one and vice versa. It is possible to “implant”, for example, antenna elements, power wiring, electronics and other elements to the polymer structure.

The new technology will provide an option of automatic production (in accordance with CAD drawings) of monocoque multilayer metal and polymer structures of titanium, aluminum or iron-carbon alloys without a single riveting, without welding, gluing or using connecting elements (for example, in an airframe, may be only apart from wing-fuselage attachment points, being flange connections).

The technology will be even more efficient outside the Earth atmosphere allowing for manufacture of large monocoque shells.
