Thermoelectric heat exchanger

[Category : - RENEWABLE ENERGY]
[Viewed 2152 times]

A Spanish inventor has patented a brand new thermoelectric heat exchanger, which can be applied as a conventional heat exchanger, heating or cooling, but with the advantage of producing electricity, achieving high energy savings and large amounts of CO2 reductions in the atmosphere, due to its internal heating management.

Currently, much of the energy produced by vehicles is lost as waste heat.
The re-use the heat for energy use is one of the aims in the sector. Thus, the present invention comprises a thermoelectric conversion device, suitable for vehicles by land, sea or air sectors, using the residual heat to produce energy.

One of its main advantages is that thermoelectric generators are devoid of ceramics and protected by a polymer thermally conductive and electrically insulating. The ceramics have the drawback of being rigid while the polymer is flexible and more resistant to vibration or impact, and also reduces the weight of the device in the vehicle, since it dispenses with mechanical compression or clamping. Moreover, the heat exchanger incorporates a double set of plates to direct the outside of said exchanger a possible leakage of fluids.

Some applications in sectors: automotive industry, pharmaceutical industry, oil industry, food industry, maritime industry or area, powerplants, cogeneration with other renewable energy sources: biomass, geothermal, solar, ocean, organic rankine cycle turbines, etc.

Current and Potential Domain of Application: The thermoelectric device is versatile, being able to be manufactured in different sizes depending on its applications and therefore can be performed more or less investment in technology.

If the invention is needed to be used for cogeneration with other renewables such as biomass, geothermal, solar, oceanic or organic Rankine cycle turbines, it would require a hefty investment. However, with a much lower investment for hybrid vehicles can be used either sector land, sea or air in order to increase efficiency and fuel economy in the vehicles.

Moreover, conventional boilers used in the home consist of heat exchanger for hot water or heating, if this is replaced by the thermoelectric heat exchanger would save small cogeneration electricity consumption in homes, and since exchanger is built into the boiler itself would not need any installation at home unlike other renewable energies that depend on the environment.

ADVANTAGES AND INNOVATION:
Internal function and heating management making more efficient than the others thermoelectric in the market.

One of its main advantages is that it uses ceramic thermoelectric generators devoid instead are protected by a polymer with high temperature resistance with good thermal conductivity and good electrical insulation properties. Ceramics have the drawback of being rigid and having a high coefficient of thermal expansion they tend to crack and break over time, while the polymer is flexible and has lower thermal expansion coefficients than ceramics. The polymer weighs 50% -60% less than the ceramics and offers design freedom as it is easy to cut into shapes, and is 50% cheaper than the ceramics.
Because the generators are protected by the above mentioned polymer, they are more resistant to vibration or impact, and also reduces the weight of the device is omitted because the compression or clamping elements.

Financial information

The invention has not been previously licensed and the intention is to sell the patent.

It is the only patent that I own and no brand name associated with the invention.

Great market potential because conversion of waste heat into electricity is done, besides a few years ago thermoelectric cells were expensive, inefficient and today are cheaper and more efficient.
