Multi Purpose Framing Square
[Category : - Construction Processes & Equipment- Tools]
[Viewed 3330 times]
A multi-purpose framing square with longitudinal slots in the angular arms, a rule having a longitudinal slot, and two clamping screws for securing the rule in various angular positions on the arms of the square, so that the scale may be shifted on the square to establish a number of accurate roof pitch angles, and be maintained at its adjusted position. Spirit levels are provided on each of the square arms and on the rule to determine plumb and level. The square arms and rule are thick thereby providing saw guides. The square arms are each marked with measuring scales as well as with markers for twelve inch or sixteen inch center layouts. The rule is marked with a plurality of degrees for common pitch lines and hip and valley pitch lines and can also guide the cut of the rise and run of a stair stringer.
Financial information My research for producing this tool (metal/plastic) would need a mold which costs anywhere from $6,000-$10,000 depending which fabricator you go to. After creating a mold, they can be made for around $2.00-$4.00 per framing square which stores can sell them for $15-$25.Speed squares are usually retailed between those prices. It is a reasonable priced tool which most people have $20-$25 when shopping at a home improvement store. The multi purpose framing square is economical for a tool rather than purchasing a speed square ,level ,cutting guide ,etc..
We have a 3-D CD that will help the manufacturers make the mold. We do have one made from plastic which we use at our job sites. My workers prefer using the multi purpose framing square rather than the speed square because its accurate, easier to understand, and guides the saw for multiple perfect cuts.
We do have a demonstration video between my multi purpose framing square and the speed square which is commonly used these days. More info on the patent at
