Constant output speed.

This is a recent invention for boosting the efficiency of IC engines , and more particularly while accelerating the engine. The invention has been patented recently (Patent No. 261196 Dt. 11/6/2014. “Transmission system for constant output speed”). The system makes use of a particular member in the power transmission unit of the vehicle, which always keeps
running at high speed , irrespective of the Engine speed. This is achieved with the help of a combination of differential and Planetary gears controlled by microprocessors. Even if the engine runs at its slowest speed, this particular member will always maintain its rated high speed .
This constant speed member will be driving the ‘super charger’, generally attached to the Diesel engine. The super charger is a fast running fan, at present directly driven by the engine to feed extra quantity of air into the engine, in addition to the quantum of air sucked by the engine itself. The super charger boosts up the engine efficiency , more particularly in the slow speed range when the suction pressure of the engine is comparatively weak, and the engine suffers for air. More particularly when the driver accelerates the vehicle, the engine needs additional fuel and air. While more fuel can be fed by pressing the accelerator, the air required will have to be drawn by the engine itself. This situation is taken care by the super charger, by feeding additional quantity of air from out side. If sufficient air for the combustion is not available, the fuel will be wasted, and the engine has to undergo the maximum strain, since it does not produce enough power to accelerate the vehicle. During acceleration the engine has to produce the maximum power, while running normally the power requirement is comparatively negligible. Until the engine builds up the desired speed, the engine will be starving for the air, and simultaneously wasting fuel. This deficiency is known as “Turbo lag” which is one of the main sources of “engine wear and tear” and wastage of fuel, which can be eliminated by providing a super charger always operating at its rated speed.

This member will also drive the generator so that the voltage generated will be always at constant level, and this can increase the life of all electrical / Electronic equipments installed in the vehicle, and more particularly the battery life.

This was one of my inventions considered by jury to select me for NIP award (National intellectual property award). Twice I have won the NRDC (National research development Corporation of India)award in India - in 1972 and 1990.
